Good day. I have a friend who got hit by a car but only came out with bruises but days later started bleeding from his nose. When he went to the hospital he was diagnosed with cautionary clogged artery and was told he only at least 15 years to live. He was also told that the odds of the surgery was 80 to 20 against him. Please could cautionary clogged artery cause nose bleeding and are the chances of the surgery really that low

Hi. Quite a worrying time for you I see, and I sympathize. They will cut the wires that are existing and see the condition of his sternum. Maybe he has an infection which antibiotics won't touch and it needs to be cleaned by surgery. Maybe his blood supply to the sternum has been damaged and some of it is necrotic (dead). A lot can be told when they actually open him up and look. They will make good everything which is in there and if necessary add some metal plating to give strength. There is more risk to bypass than fixing the sternum. The plating method has been used quite a lot now and looks promising. When they are finished, he should heal and be totally free of pain.
