Chest Pains

My son just had an ablation Oct. 23rd.  Then night after he had it he complained central chest pains.  Shortness of breath, Hard to catch his breathe, Painful, gets pale. We thought it was from the tubes down his throat and that his throat esophagus was hurting.  That subsided and his ECG 2 weeks later came out normal.  Last night he had the same symptoms, only worse, gasping for air, Lots of pain, took him to ER.  They did a ECG (Normal) Xrays (Normal) Ultrasound (Slight Fluid, not enough to be alarmed) His Heart Rate was 145 going in to ER and stayed above 100.  They gave him pain medicine which helped.  They discharged him for UNKNOW causes.  He was given Tylenol for the 101 fever he had at that time.  Today his Rate is 112 Heart rate.  Any ideas?

Fluid around the heart is not to be ignored. I'm so glad to hear he's going in today. Hope they get him fixed up and more comfortable soon.

I assumed he had a tube down his throat..... Maybe he didn't.  I didn't see him until recovery.  Fluid was around his heart. He has an appointment today with his pediatrician, but nothing with the cardiologist, which is about 4 hours away from here.

I've had 3 ablations but never had the tube in my throat. Usually they use "conscious sedation", a blend of meds that keeps you comfortable but very out of it. There's no need for assisted breathing.

I had regular surgery in Feb. that did require a breathing tube. All I had from that was a slightly scratchy throat and a mild, annoying cough for 24 hours.

If he did have a tube for whatever reason I suppose he could be having esophageal spasms which are quite painful. But the fever seems to point to some kind of illness. You said there was slight fluid. Was that in his lungs? Maybe he has a touch of bronchitis or pneumonia. It's definitely something worth watching.

After an ablation many people do get some dull aches in the center of their chest. It's not excruciating but it's noticeable. It's part of the healing process. But again, if he has a fever, something else must be going on.
