Hi any doctors or cardiologist can kindly advise, thank you
Hi, further to my son 2D echo results reported above on my earlier post, my son has gone to a cardiologist today. Without looking at anything, he said the slight bulging of his atrial septum to the right atrium is not an important issue as many people have this issue, i am puzzle....later he took a look at the 2D echo which was done by another dr previously and told us that the bulging is "within normal limits", what does he means? Must we do anything further?
He recomend to have my son put on a 24hr ECG to monitor his heart rythmn but it will be done only next month end.
meanwhile, should we pursue further regarding the slight bulging reported on the 2D echo?
Please advise and thank you
Vincent
Thank you dr for your advice. We will go to a cardiologist.
You mentioned ASA but the 2D echo report did not state that it is ASA or IAS, just slight bulging of atrial septum towards right.
You mentioned ASA usually has blood flow between atrium but the 2D echo report already stated No Intra-cardiac shunt.
So is other test like TEE and Bubble study needed to re-examine if he has ASA/IAS and Shunting?
My son has zero symptoms, no shortness of breath, fatigue, fainting, dizziness, pain, etc.
In isolated cases, will such bulge at the atrial septum gets worst and life threatening with
time or with strenous physical exercise/exertion?
Any restrictions in diet and exercise?
Thank you very much for your help
Vince
Hello and hope you are doing well.
The main concern with atrial septal aneurysm is the formation of thrombus, which in turn can cause emboli, which can get lodged in vital organs. Many people with an atrial septal aneurysm will also have a small communication (blood flow) between the two atria. For this reason, sometimes an additional study, referred to as a "bubble study", which is a special type of echocardiogram, may be performed to rule this out. The exact treatment of an atrial septal defect depends on the patients overall general condition. If your son has no symptoms now, your doctor may decide to wait and watch.
First consult a cardiologist, to rule out this diagnosis, then you can discuss further course of action. Good Luck.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
could anyone kindly advise whether a slight
bulging of the atrial septum towards right atrium detected from 2D Echo (report did not mentioned
aneurysm) is a serious or life threatening issue?
what normally can be done about it?

Hello and hope you are doing well.
Understand your predicament.
The inter atrial septum is the wall that separates right from left atrium. When there is a bulge in the wall, there is a suspicion of Atrial septal aneurysm, which is a localized "saccular" deformity, generally at the level of the fossa ovalis. Atrial septal aneurysm is associated with congenital and acquired heart diseases but also can present as an isolated abnormality. Sometimes a transesophageal echocardiogram can provide more information. Please discuss this with your cardiologist.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Is there any doctor who can kindly advise on the above post. Thank you
Can someone help us, please...thank you
