mendelsons syndrone

As a type 2 diabetic i restrict my sugar intake, but on occasions i succumb to temptation by having 4-5 chocolate eclair sweets before going to bed,this does relax me and sleep is a lot faster than normal, but it is on these occasions that i wake to find a sweet fluid entering my trachia cousing me to cough and splutter, now that i have identified the culpret i no longer indulge ,but ask the question why this should happen

They are small candy with  chocolate centre. Thank you for the info

What is a "chocolate eclair sweet"--a little piece of candy that tastes like a chocolate eclair, or do you mean full-sized chocolate eclairs?

The big ones, of course, will send your blood sugar through the roof!

In either case, though, it sounds as though you have not had a chance for your stomach to empty before you lie down, and the undigested stomach contents are simply leaking back up your esophagus.

There is a kind of "valve" at the base of the esophagus that is supposed to minimize this, but in quite a few people, it does not work well.  In general, people with this problem are advised NOT to eat anything for several hours before going to bed.
