High diastolic and rapid pulse

I have been having problems with my blood pressure for the past 5 years.  Highest was 180/110 after I gave birth each time.

Recently my blood pressure has been all over the pace and my pulse is usually over 100.  My diastolic is usually in the 90's.  a common reading would be 119/92, but with little acitivity my BP jumps up to 160/102.  I am out of breath, even with small activities such as tying my shoes or standing up too long.  I also have a terrible headache!  I don't want to have a stroke or heart attack.

My doctor set me up for an event monitor because he doesn't seem to think anything is urgent regarding my BP and pulse.   What could be wrong or will I have to struggle with this all my life?

Should I be concerned because I always have a high diastolic but usually a normal systolic.  For example I will get number such as 118/98 or 125/98.  I can't seem to get the diastolic down

Unfortunately yes you will have this most likely than not in the rest of your life. Doesn’t have to be a struggle, if you and a good doctor take it seriously and will put you on a right amount of pills you will lose that headache and your numbers will go down. You can do a lot also: low sodium diet(less than 2000 mg of sodium intake a day ,if you can better to keep it around 1600, do not forget all food naturally has sodium in it. Processed foods are loaded with sodium.) Also you should go to reach near idol weight. Walk a lot, stress control is important.
With activities BP goes up, you should not measure it while active only after sitting 5-10 minutes, seeing high numbers if measure while active  giving a fails conclusion.
It seems to me your doctor cares if he put you on an event monitor. But wait and see. You always can get an other doctor if you are not happy with him.:)

Best wishes!
