How do I know when skipped heart beats are dangerous?

Over a week ago for absolutely no identifiable reason my heart started skipping way more beats than usual.  I can go hours with none and then have several hours where I'll have 2 or 3 a minute.  It's setting me over the edge.  I don't know if it's dangerous or not.  I went to the ER the other day and they basically didn't care at all and just had me take Ativan and sent me home.  Today I panicked and called the paramedics who came and did a 12 lead and they said normal sinus with one ectopic and so I didn't go back to the ER.  I had a normal echo 3 years ago.  I already don't eat caffeine or sugar.

Please reassure or sympathize with me.  I'm going insane and have no idea what's causing this out of the blue.  Why would they suddenly increase for no reason whatsoever?

I'm 38 and have had them here and there through my life, like, one a year. Recently (past 3 mo.) I started having them daily hourly minutely. It *****. I hear you about depression and happy go lucky out the door when these this happen. I tried taking mag and alfalfa and fish oil and laxatives but nothing really works. It's like its all in the head. I'll be one minute laughing and get one then I'm all serious faced and thats all I think about. I just ate like 3 pieces of pizza and got them every other minute for 10 minutes but it was a good day. Took my son to the beach and was playing then got one, but I said screw it, I'm having fun damnit. I just read your thread and I wanted to let you know I'm going through this too. Good luck to you. Also I'm an anxious guy and I think it is all in our heads and stress. Peace

I have had these missed heartbeats since i was 28 years old, they have plagued me all my life,i am now 65 years old. I have had all the heart tests and they have all come back ok.  You are right in saying they make you depressed!  i have good days too and days when they are constant especially at night when i can hear them.  I am an active person and have held down good jobs because i did not want it to restrict my life, i think some of us are prone to this and have to live with it!  i ask people if they are aware of their heartbeat and they say no, i actually feel envious!  My son who has a high flying job has the same problem, my 2 girls are fine. It is no use saying you will be ok because i know what it is like!
