Life after St. Jude valve with A-Fib

20 years ago I had a St. Jude Aortic valve put in. I am doing very well. I also have A-Fib which I have livedcwith for at least 10 years. I was on a medication for the A-Fib which worked for a while, then had 2oblations to try and get it back in rythym that did not work. So, I have lived with it for 10 years. Everything (all my medications and exercise and watchful eating) seems to be working well. I just wonder what is the life expectancy of my valve.

Yeah it’s pretty dismal; overall recurrence rate of any arrhythmia is 50% with a return to afib being an issue in as many as 30% after 1 ablation.

Even after 2 ablations 5%-10% go into it. After 3 or more you’re still stuck with a few that simply can’t be cured.

That's truly excellent to hear.  Glad it has worked so well and for so long!  I like success stories.  The information I've read just states 'more than 20 years' without specifics.  I personally would schedule an appointment to discuss with your doctor or a cardiologist now as it has been 20 years so that you know signs to look for when it is time to replace again.  Maybe it will last forever!  Hope so.  https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12822621/
