Okay after taking High Blood Pressure Meds?!

My fiance is only 24 years old, 5'8 and 225lbs. This may sound like he is very overweight but honestly he looks quite fit! He recently was put on Atenolol for high blood pressure. He's been very healthy his whole life and I am concerned that even though he is on the medication there are still health issues that could arrise? Or is he okay now that he is on medication and I shouldn't worry. I have talked to him and we are trying to improve his diet, he eats lots of fastfood!

Unforunately the medical community almost always reacts with medical therapy based on an individuals symptoms.  A good doctor will tell you that being overweight is a risk factor for heart disease, and if possible maintain proper weight with diet and exercise.  Medication helps control high blood pressure, but the risk for occluded vessels remain with plaque buildup of the vessels, heart valves, etc.  Therefore exercise and proper diet is recommended...no smoking or excessive drinking.  That will help.

Thanks for you sharing, and if you have any followup questions feel free to respond.  Take care.
