Passing out from Cardiomyopathy

Im Currenlty 33 years, with cardiomyopathy caused by genetic along with ejection fraction of 30%. with way less then 10% blockage

I was diagnose at the age of 25 with cardiomyopathy with an unknow cause at the time, had a EF (Ejection Fraction rate) of 45%.  I was put on corag twice a day like most ppl, I level out at an EF of ~42% for about 4 years.  The last 3 years have seen massive uncrollable falling at EF of 30% as of two months ago and dropping. currently working on getting a diffibulator installed in the next two - three months.

Since my massive falling from EF of 42% to 30% I have started passing out,  my heart at reast wile sitting down would race at over 150rpm then drop down to under 50rpm, at that point I would start to feel extreamly tired and if the drop was even lower I would loose it completely and pass out,  I could wake up 5min to an hour later with my boddy pumping. I can feel blood repumping to my system.

has anyone else here have had this problem of passing out.  its been in the last two years...  at first I thought I might have sleep acnem and even the test showed i did and got a machine, but then it start happing within hours of me waking up or it would go two or three times a day.

after working for a company for the last 10+ years, I'm being fired for lack of work do to passing out at work. so im screwed now.  but I have to keep moving and I can not stop, I haver a 3 month old, 16month old, and a two year old I have to support...  tiss life looks like no reitrement for me LOL   what can I do about this,  I need to work to support my family.

Well today I go see my Cardio Electropholgist today again  (I like him better then my normal cardioligist seems to be more infomed)  so got to get the usel EKG and sometimes a Eco every few trips.  I think today is making plans for a ICD.. not looking forward to that since I realy dont want one installed..

I plan to talk to him about the fainting / passing out thing that I'v been doing for a wile. I was ready that corag can make you tired, but can it bring you to the point where you just loose it totaly and go under.

also I have a lot of Knee and angle work thats been done to me, so I end up getting a few xrays, MRI ect...  on my knees and angkles.. will a ICD be affect by them..

Thanks for the reply,  ill check out my messages.   as for lifting 10lb is that temp wile you heal or is that forever after surgery.

heavy commercial equipment,  eak that sounds bad, as I'm an engineer and need to go around massive manufacturing machines all the time.  some with some massive magnets in them.   so this might be total life and career changing me for.

well getting let go anyone becuase of passing out, time to get back to school. LOL

so sorry I posted this earlier; but my post was removed even though I didn't include ANY links... so I'll send you a private message with the info also - do some research through search engines for icd support forums or groups...there's a few great ones

the icd is pretty easy and you will have limitations like no lifting above 10 lbs and keep your arm down for a few weeks to several months depending on your case, after you're fully healed - you'll be told you can't be around commercial equipment or magnets other than that, most do whatever you physically can and your doctor allows.

Thanks for the Info..

as for work goes, its just a shocker after 10 years and currently over 65% of the products they sale are my designs wile everyone else has less then 10%,  they say my lack of work production..  in short passing out at work a few times a day and my production has gone down.. oh well tiss life.

yea I might check into SSDI, since my last day of work is July 1st, ( I stilll had some pull at work so they giving me time to find other work) The problem it seems I'm getting worse and worse and not sure how much longer I can keep up with the world these days and only 33 I should be gun ho full speed ahead.

as for a ICD,  they want to install one and I see my doc this month and have to make my mind up.. whats the draw backs to the ICD, does it give you any limitations of what you can do???

sorry i forgot something - if you're being fired or "let go" it may be beneficial to talk to an attny about this - there are some laws that can prevent them from letting you go, or if you're already fired; file unemployment until you get your health issues under control.

I was 'let go' while I was in the hospital with pregnancy complications back in 2000 even though I had not missed a day of work since I had started there, later I found out that was illegal =)

As Kenkeith said, please be very cautious about driving; I know it's difficult - I haven't been allowed to drive for 2 years and it's tough, but I'm lucky because I don't have to drive to work.

Just a thought and some info - I found out the hard way that if you're driving and faint and it's ever been documented in your medical files that you faint, the insurance company does NOT have to pay for the accident and they can even sue you for breach of contract and the other person can really sock it to you.

Luckily, I only bumped a fence and not much damage was done when I fainted driving...very small out of pocket expense compared to taking someone's life had a child been on the sidewalk that day.

You should think about contacting a social security disability attny and find out what programs there are you can qualify for in your case - you may be able to get SSDI if the ICD doesn't stop or prevent your fainting spells; otherwise something drastic could happen.

My ICD did not stop all my syncope issues even set at higher rates (set at 60 now); I fainted last week and have had pre-syncope spells since it was implanted in Aug 2009.

yes, I do agree and so does my wife a lot,   I have had some episodes wile driving.  It seems I getting worse and worse..   For the most part it can be timed event within a range  I know btween 11:00am to 1:30pm I should get to that point once or twice,  also depending on when it happends the first time,  I will pass out somewhere between 6pm and 8pm.

I usualy sleep between 9:30PM to 6:30AM so 9 hours a night +/- an hour there.  it seems after about 4 to 6 hours my heart just needs to shut down and relax some. LOL

now these times are the most commong, but it can happend any time of the day..  even at night wile a sleep my breathing can change and my wife has been unable to wake me for time frames of upto an hour.

Kenkeith, where you going to post information links, I did not see any in your post.

Also driving, I dont have much of a choice, I have to work, I have 7 kids and a wife to take care in total,  As the sole income provider, there no other option, plus if I can not work I wont have insurance to pay for medical bills, or medical for my kids.

There are some links to information that may help you.  If you have any questions or comments after reading the threads, you are welcome to respond. Just based on the symptoms you have posted, you should get a complete physical workup.  You could pass out driving a car or some other dangerous time, so you are taking a risk that could be lif threatening,

Thanks for your sharing, take care,

Ken
