Was your eps study quite painful? Were you totally awake?

I recently had an EPS Study because my heart rate was going very high with minimal exertion. The electrophysiologist had hoped to perform an ablation to solve the issue so that no meds would be needed. The procedure for the eps was quite painful as minimal twilight anesthesia was given because the dr didn’t not want to mask the spikes.  I could feel everything, from the leads going into my heart to each poke and prod. Lasted almost 3 hours when body cramping set in from the procedure and dr had to stop.   Is this normal for this procedure?  Please advise!!!  I really need this fixed but mapping was incomplete because my body couldn’t last beyond the 2.5-3 hour procedure with very very minimal sedation.

I received no medications after the numbing shot in my groin.  My doctor does not like any meds in the system.
