Hello and hope you are doing well.
With Raynaud's as such the arteries to the fingers and toes go into what's called vasospasm, which makes the vessels narrow temporarily to limit the blood supply. When it occurs without another disease present, it is called Raynaud's disease (or primary Raynaud's). And when it occurs as part of another disease, it is called Raynaud's phenomenon (or secondary Raynaud's).
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
I imagine you're seeing a rheumatologist since you have secondary Raynauds. What is the primary problem? Sjogrens, Lupus, RA? Perhaps the rheumy can explain the connection between the raynauds and your primary health issue better. There are some medications that can help with Raynauds but you'll have to ask if they're safe for you to use.
Hi: Can Raynauds occur with small vessel spasms? I do have a very mild case of Sjogrens. I do not take any meds. for my Sjogrens. My raynauds
is very mild I do take 180 mg of Dilitiazem every 12 hours. Is there a connection with small vessel spasms and raynauds? Thanks
Hi: I do have a very mild case of Sjogrens. I do not take any meds. for my Sjogrens. (Thank God) I do understand Raynauds but I cannot find any information regarding if Raynauds have a connection with small vessels spasms. I do take 180 mg of Dilitiazem every 12 hours. I hope that is a safe drug or is it a black box drug? Thanks.
I also take Diltiazem for my heart issues and it helps quite a bit with my Raynauds. Since Diltiazem helps relax blood vessels I can see why it helps with Raynauds as well.
Are you talking about small vessels spasms in the heart? The medication should help with that. I know I have had periods of chest pain upon exertion, also some times just random and the D. seems to have calmed those down considerably.
I'm sorry if we're going round and round about your question. Raynauds does cause small vessel spasms in the hands and feet and areas of the face. Thus the odd color changes.
I feel like I haven't answered the question yet. :-o
I been diagnosis with small vessel coronary vasospasm same as coronary microvasculature. It's location is in the chest area. I had no idea that the medicine works on Raynauds. I think you did a good job of answering
my question. I still do not know if Raynauds is related to small vessel spasms. I will ask my Doctor next time I see him. My condition is rare due to the fact that I do not have any blockage in any of my arteries including
the small arteries. I can run, swim and weight train without any pain it's always afterwards 1 hour to 6 hours later never during my workouts. That's why it took 30 years before a Cardiologist diagnosis me. Thanks
