Scuba diving

Hi, I'm a 35 year old male with a history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and rapid heart beats. All of which are mostly under control by medicine, although my bp is occassionally borderline and I do occasionally have rapid heart beats. I'm considering taking a scuba diving class and was wondering if I should consult my physician before taking the course. It's been over a year since my last EKG and stress test (they were normal before) and was wondering if I should ask to have any of those repeated before scuba diving.

My Brother is a qualified diver and is also on medication for cholesterol/blood pressure. You HAVE to have a doctors report clearing you of any foreseeable problems before you can train. This is a legal requirement for obvious reasons. Every year my brother has to renew his medical certificate.
