Swelling in arm after bypass surgery

My uncle  recently had a triple bypass and now has extreme swelling in his arm. What could be the cause of this? His dr has tried several things but the swelling is still there. He elevates it while sleeping at night but as soon as he moves around the next day it immediately swells again

Sorry to hear this is going on.  This is in his arm and not leg, correct?  While this can happen from not using it, I'd be concerned.  Can he give his surgeon a call to report this? In general, fluid retention is not a great thing post surgery and could mean an issue with the kidney or heart. Also, has he changed his diet to be less sodium?
