What is causing clicking in my throat?

Hi. I have a clicking noise in my throat that is audible to other people. The clicking coincides with my heartbeat. It does not matter what position I am in. I could be lying down or sitting up. What could it be?

On the internet, there are pages and pages (!)  relating to this question:

https://www.google.com/#q=clicking+noise+in+throat+in+time+with+heartbeat&start=10

But no good answers.  I suspect it means that (a) no one really knows what causes it, and (b) it's harmless.
