anyone dealing with atherosclerosis genetic high cholesterol?

I've been newly diagnosed with heart disease my left descending aorta has plaque and calcifications my score was 247 I'm a little freaked anyone have information?  I am now on lipitor my ldl is 147 HDL 76

That seems to me very low, because my score for that same artery six years ago was 783 and I am still alive at 82 years of age. Last time I checked, my LDL was 179. Although every doctor I talked to was advising to take Statin drugs, I refused because of side effects I could not tolerate.
