aortic root enlarged 5.1 cm and bicuspid aortic valve.

Hi! I'm a man; I'm 53 years old, my height is 1.87m and my weight is 87 Kg. Ive got an aortic root enlarged (thoracic) of 5.1 cm and I've got a bicuspid aortic valve.
should I have surgery...is it very urgent? Is the surgery risky..or is it riskier not having surgery?
PLEASE, IF SOMEONE HAVE THIS PROBLEM LIKE ME..OR IF YOU HAD SURGERY..OR ANY SIMILAR EXPERIENCE..BAD OR GOOD...PLEASE ANSWER ME...I'M WORRIED!!!

My son who is nearly 18 years old, was born with a aortic stenosis - bicuspid valve, with mild reguritation.  Everything has always been the same for the most part, a check up every year.  This last time we went (2 weeks ago), his aortic root is dilated to 3.5cm, and his ascending arota is 4.5cm.  He is going back in 6 months to see how things are going.  He now is one a Beta Blocker.  This came as a very big shock, since we didn't think he would need surgery for the valve until he was in his 30's or 40's.  But now, when his ascending aorta, gets closer to 5.0cm, they will go in a fix everything.  Not what a boy in his senior year in high school wants to hear.  My son is 6'1'' and weights around 200 lbs.  Good luck, everything I have been reading and have been told, it's a very succesful operation.

Did you have surgery?  How did it go?  If not, were you put on medications?  I am similar, but mine is 4.9cm and they are going to watch it with measurements every few months.  They normally replace it when over 5.0cm to avoid dissection which can be fatal.
