I had a double bypass in July and my diet which has really been great is a no salt, no eggs (egg whites are ok),
no cheese no meat and low fat...lots of veggies fruits fish chicken and some nuts...I was also told that with some of the meds not to take grape fruit...conflicts with some tabs you may be on for BP or Cholesterol.

I believe you are referring to a Glycemic Index (GI) diet. This is good to follow and as the doctor stated lowering saturated fats is key. Also look at oldways.org for their pyramid for mediterrean diet plan to follow. They have a nice pyramid you can print out and have it handy in the kitchen. This is mainly a plant, nut, fruit plan with less animal sources of fat and proteins. Good Luck. Joan.

I am not what a ow GI diet is, but you should be following a low saturated fat, calorie controlled diet. THe DASH diet is a good example of this, but there are many others. You should also limit your daily intake of cholesterol, but this is not as important in lowering your cholesterol as saturated fat in your diet. The website is www.dashdiet.org
