how often does a 'keep fit' freak need to have an echocardiogram and or ecg?

some professional athletes have them guidelines of one every 12-24 months.

Cyclists (prof and amateur) that enter competition need to have a health test done 1/year. This test also includes ECG recording and analyzing.
For many other demanding sports it is advisable or mandatory to do the same.

For a "keep fit" freak, it depends on the intensity and duration of exercising. Normally once per 2 years is more than enough, especially if you are under 40 years of age.
