Had by pass surgery approx. 5yrs ago, the mammery vein was used.  A recent check up showed 50% blockage. Why is this so. I thought it should be all clear. I am taking Crestor and Sotalol, plus exercise and careful diet.

I only eat brown bread, brown rice, the red skinned potato I don't know its name.  Low fat milk, low fat yourgert. low fat cheese very small amounts.  We have no cakes biscuits, sweets, cream etc in the house. No ham, corned beef, metwurst, or any processed meat.

Eat fruit, veggies, chicken without skin, fish, especially salmon, steak, bacon all fat removed.  Nothing fried. just baked or grilled.

Portion control is the answer, just because something is good for you and low in fat does not mean you can have as much of it as you like!

There are a lot of opinions on the correct diet. Can you specify what you eat and avoid?

I'm glad to learn that you learned early on that you have a blockage of the mammary artery.  It means it can be monitored, and probably fixed .  I had bypass using the mammary artery as well as two leg veins, and both the arterial and vein grafts failed within one year.  My existing arterial arteries remained somewhat open, that is why I'm still standing.  I lost over 60 pounds, cut out sugar, high cholesterol foods, it just happened.  I'd strongly urge you to have frequent blood tests, exercise, continue of low cholesterol diet.
I know you are interested in an answer, but think the best thing is continue with conventional medicine, be careful of those with nostrums.  Please, keep us informed.  Feel free to communicate with me as I'm fighting the same battle.

Hi, according to studies done, arteries have better outcomes than veins. Several studies have shown that after 7 to 10 years, the patency of internal-mammary-artery grafts is 85 to 95 percent. Intrinsic vein-graft disease has been correlated with abnormal levels of serum cholesterol and triglycerides, diabetes, elevated low-density lipoprotein. So, controlling the high risk factors is important to prevent closure of grafts. Regards.
