high blood pressure

My mother is in her late 70's with very high blood pressure (systolic pressure was at 250). She's getting tests done, but they don't seem to be timely or thorough enough. My mother is horrible with advocating for herself. Her PCP told her that she may just have to live with high blood pressure. Could this be true????I don't think they are treating it aggressively enough.

Your mother had a top number of 250 and her doctor tells her she has to live with high BP??????  FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!.

My top # was 255 at one time and I was rushed to the ER, had all kinds of tests done, was referred to a Cardiologist and to a Hypertension Specialist even though they all knew about my "white coat hypertension" which can make the BP shoot very high in some people like me when under extreme anxiety/suspense/stress.

I am on two BP meds now for the last 4 1/2 yrs and never had a side effect.

Your mother should NOT have to live with VER high BP.  Find another doctor ASAP!

NO WAY would I accept hearing that my mom may just have to "live with high blood pressure."  Is your mom taking medication(s)?  Have they tried a variety of medications to help her get good BP control?  Sometimes it takes more than one medication to reduce the BP.  My mom had high systolic pressure and her doctor was on top of it right away.  She takes a couple of different medications (that's quite common).  If your mom isn't able to advocate for herself, you or someone close to her should go with her to the appointments.  If you don't feel she is getting acceptable treatment, help her find a new doctor who she will feel comfortable with.
