Ability to control heart, strange sensation.

I am in my early 20's and for a long time I have been able to sort of control my heart rate. It doesn't seem that different and everyone may be able to do it. What I do is pretty much whenever I am still and can focus my mind I give myself sort of a feeling of lightness or pulling myself from my body in a way. When I do this my heart begins to increase in pace and a feeling of adrenaline rushing through my body happens. I also get a strange tingling behind the knees and to induce it I generally focus on that area. It wasn't that weird until one night I was laying down and I tried to do it for a while. What happened was a loss of all feeling in my body, a sort of numbness and my mind getting this feeling of depth. Afterwards I had a slight headache and my chest hurt a little. I was wondering if this is common or what.

Or when you elicit that feeling of being light, that could sensation since it would stimulating I imagine may very well be what triggers the rise in your pulse rate.

Well you can, at least I presume that you can control your parasympathetic nervous systems to some degree, indirectly by such things like how you breathe, you sit, certain postures and so on.

It's not common; or at least I don't think it is. Since you got chest pain and a headache, you should probably contact a doctor, as this could be serious.

Interesting, and even strange to my old mind.

I think your experience is about controlling/evoking body functions that stimulate the heart system.  What are you doing with your breathing during these "tests"?

Anything we do that changes our oxygen intake or need changes the HR.

I recommend against forcing your breathing (holding or power breathing) to see what it does to your heart.
