I was on Amiodaone for two months following a-fib. I was concerned about the safety profile of the medication as well. Most of the potential side effects are listed in the literature that the pharmacist provides with the prescription (as required by FDA). It is best to discuss each one of these concerns with the cardiologist and/or EP. However, it is best to do some of your own reading (independent research). One warning, sometimes the information on the web can be unnerving. Try to consult multiple reputablt web pages before reaching a decision. Again, your own research is a great way to formulate questions to discuss with your cardiologist.
Amiodarone is the most powerful of the anty arrhythmia drugs. I did not tolerate very well and had to discontinue when I was recovering from ablation. Here is a link that would give you more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiodarone
If your husband is concerned and having the problems you describe, he needs to tell those concerns to his doctor--and soon.
