Any other meds

I have been having chest pains that worsens when moving and touching the the affected area. Was diagnosed with inflammation of some parts of joints of ribs. Was told to take ibuprofen. The pain gets better but returns. R there other meds???

Its sounds like costochondritis. Usually ibuprofen is all they suggest.

Hello.

Ibuprofen is a NSAID (Non-steroid anti-inflammation drug), so it has some effect on the inflammation too, not just to relief the pain. There are other NSAIDs too but some of them have lots of side effects. Diclofenac is one that in my country is sold over the counter almost as often as Ibuprofen.

Of course, for severe inflammations (with inflammations, there are no infection) steroid anti inflammation drugs can be used, such as cortisone.

I would follow the advice you get from your doctor, but be sure to report side effects, if you get burning chest/stomach pain, tell him at once, because NSAIDs in high doses may cause ulcers. The dose required for an anti-inflammatory effect is much higher than just to relieve pain.

I think you need some treatment in addition to NSAIDs. Physiotherapy, especially combined with stress management, really works.
