I went to my PCP, who wants me to have and echocardiogram and wear a holter monitor. I have my doubts about them finding anything. Although I get the usual "skipped" or premature beats on occasion, the ones that bother me and give me the sensation of choking and imminent passing out occur only once every 3 or 4 months. I haven't passed out yet, but it scares me.
Having irregular rhythms from time to time can be benign; however, when you are so lightheaded and about to pass out, they are not. It is time to see a cardiologist who may refer you to an Electrophysiologist, a cardiologist who specializes in the electrical systems and rhythms of the heart. From a previous post, I saw you were inquiring about holter monitors so I assume you are going to go to see a cardiologist, something you need to do. Through EKGs and the holter, he/she will be able to diagnose your problem. Again, good luck to you.

Thank you for your suggestion. My mind is at ease. Aside from nearly passing out, I'm okay with it. After all, it only happens once every few months.
I would see a cardiologist if the rhythm irregularity is a concern and especially if they occur with symptoms, such as lightheadedness, short of breath, or sustained arrhythmia of any kind. Even if I had no symptoms, I would discuss it with a physician to make sure all things are in order. Why not put your mind at ease or have them managed by a professional?
