Normal heart rate??? Help!

I'm a fairly active person. When I was pregnant my heart rate spiked and I saw a cardiologist who did an EKG and echo then told me it was pregnancy related and that it would go away when I delivered. Well I had my baby December 15th and my heart rate still seems to be elevated. My resting heart rate was on average 60bpm, now it's about 92bpm depending on the day. If I do any household activity like putting laudry away, doing dishes or even walking to the bathroom it jumps to 110-120 ocassionaly 130. If I go for a longer walk or stand for too long my heart will sometimes start pounding, I'll see stars and get dizzy. What is a normal heart rate? What could this be? Will I just need beta blockers?

Hi there. Leave things till after  12 weeks following your babys birth. This will give you a chance to settle. It seems like your HR is a bit fast alright. Maybe in March go back to your doc and talk to them. Possibly get bloods etc to check you out. . How is your BP? Any problems with blood sugar levels? Beta Blockade would probably be effective, but investigate first, as pills should be a last resort. In the meantime enjoy the joys of the new arrival

I totally agree with itdood about constant monitoring. It really can drive you crazy and create a vicious circle with worry creating a high heart rate.

One thing I wanted to mention, is that after I was pregnant, my magnesium levels dropped. This makes sense because we are using stores of vitamins and minerals to create a baby. Magnesium is essential for heart rate regulation. I now take 700mg/day and that has (for the most part) stabilized  my tachycardia and PVCs. Something to consider trying before a beta blocker.

Are you wearing a heart monitor all the time?!   My advice, take it for what it's worth, is don't do that.  Stop monitoring your rate all the time.   Nothing good can come from it and you're making yourself anxious over it which raises your rate.

raised heart rate during pregnancy is a given, it's pumping for two.   It can take a few months for this adaptation to reverse.   Focus on lifestyle factors for now and put the Fitbit down.

I say this as someone who used to hyper monitor my heart rate and got myself into trouble with it. Gave that up.  In the end it was only novelty information and it didn't serve any purpose.  I won't even monitor during intense exercise, and I'm still reaching my goals.  I won't buy a fitness monitor unless it comes WITHOUT the HRM.   I use pace and watts to set and monitor goals.
