Flying with Heart Palpitations - HELP!!!!

Next week I will be going on vacation. As I suffer from heart palpitations, I am scared to death of flying with heart palps.  I am not afraid to fly, only since I've had these palps.  I have been checked by a cardiologist, had an eco-cardiogram, ekg, blood work and events monitor.  I was told no significant problems were found and I was fine. But there are times when I feel the heart palps and that fluttering feeling.  Has anyone flown with these symptoms?  If so, was if okay!  Please help as I am scared to death.  Thanks for any advice anyone can give me.

Check with your airline with that concern. In summary, check with your doctor because every body is different. Lastly,  my faith in Jesus Christ. I say that to ky body."He heals all our diseases. " Psalns 103:3

Start taking ReMag magnesium everyday.  That’s  what I did and I really don’t get the afib anymore— and I never took any prescription drugs.    I’m thinking that once my magnesium levels were back to normal the afib stopped.  Now several years later, I often forget to take the ReMag and I’m still good.  So flying really doesn’t bother me.

Wish I could fly. I used to love it, but I had an inner ear viral infection a decade ago, and flying is torture for me now. My inner ears were damaged, so I have awful dizziness, plugged and very painful ears for a day or more after landing.  Really nasty, so I go by car or train. Really too bad, as many of my relatives live in other parts of the country.

I've had the same concern as I frequently make loooong flights back and forth from Tx to Alaska.  I have flown while in a-fib, but I'd rather not, if I have a choice.  The pressurized air in the planes is not always  what it should be.  I have a pulse ox which I put on my finger and on two flights when I felt concerned and was having some chest pressure and a little shortness of breath, I checked my oxygen level it was down between 89 and 92%, not good.

Hey Nancy i think that testimonial from Jerry was a pretty good explanation.  Another thing to remember is that flying really should not effect you at all w. anything.  The cabins are pressure - ized so you really don't feel much in the way of altitude when you are up in the air.  The only thing i worry about is the dry skin we get from the reconstituted air we breath when we fly.  If you are nervous you may want to consider calling your doc before the flight and ask him/her to give you a little something so that you can relax and enjoy your flight a little more comfortably thus lessening the possiblility of stressing yourself out so that you cause the palps to pop up.  Also remember on most flights the attendants have training, the air marshalls on board have training and generally when i fly theres always a couple of docs or nurses on board as passengers....the moral to the story is have fun......i am relatively sure that nothing will happen to you except a little anxiety and your doc can take care of that for you before your trip...................have fun......i'm jealous........and its pouring rain in the Wine Country tonite...................

I flew from Newark NJ to Ft Myers Florida this afternoon.

I am in permanent atrial fibrillation - no problems.  My palpitations are mostly irregular beat and slightly high, running around 90 bpm at rest.

I suppose I am used to the feeling and generally ignore it, but do sometimes suffer a bit of dizziness if I change my physical activity level abruptly.

Given you've been checked, I think you don't have anything to worry about, enjoy your flight and vacation.
