Correction:
I meant to tell you that I've had POTS-like symptoms for years, but it has been so mild that I barely noticed it. However, it has been really intense this past year, so much so that I can no longer deny it. I don't have an official diagnosis (I can't stand doctors) but when my heart rate jumped (sometimes doubled) while standing, it was safe to say that it was POTS. I don't need a freakin' doctor telling me what I have...my body can do that for me. Like I said, I think marijuana made it much, much worse. So, yeah, that's pretty much it.
Peace.
I was in experiencing the exact same symptoms that you are suffering from since the Spring/Summer of 2007. However, I have become significantly better and am taking Atenolol 50mg, Lexapro 5mg, and Xanax 2mg everyday to help my heart problems and my anxiety. I don't know if my body is healing itself or if it's just the medication, but I do know is that I'm getting better. My symptoms were constantly changing and they would wax and wane, but as the months pass by, they are gradually fading. I think it was neurological (some form of dysautonomia, probably POTS), perhaps due to my excessive marijuana smoking. Do you use any type of drugs (including alcohol)? Are you stressed out? How old are you? I bet you are young, as young people like us (I'm 22) can experience changes in our bodies as we blossom into full-grown adults.
Here's what you need to do:
1) Discuss getting on anti-anxiety medication (an SSRI, benzodiazepine, etc.) and heart medication (beta blockers are great) with your doctor. Anti-anxiety medication can help to balance out the chemicals in your nervous system, thereby indirectly affecting the heart rate. They also help you to calm down and not stress out so much.
2) Get plenty of sleep and exercise regularly. These to activities also help to keep the nervous system balanced.
3) Eat healthy foods and stay away from alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, illegal drugs, and excessive amounts of sugar. If you do this, your body will thank you. As for the alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, and sugar--you don't have to cut these out of your life forever, just until you get better. However, I would steer clear of nicotine.
4) Avoid stress like the plague (easier said than done). Also, take a good multivitamin, preferably something from a health food store that isn't cheap and crappy (like Centrum).
Good Luck,
Ben
I hope I am making sense...I really have to get to bed!
