Hang Over????

Im a 26 year old male, and the day after, and sometimes lasting two and three days after drinking heavily, I get severe anxiety, tightness in my chest, heart palpitations etc. A lot of the time Im fine during the day, but ill wake up and its always around 2am with pain in my chest. I even went to the ER back in Octobe and was diagnosed with Costochondritis and anxiety. Its almost Feb now and im still having the complications. Do I need to see a cardiologist?

I get anxiety and my heart pounds when I'm hung over.  I also have chest pains.  I'm currently on a 30 day no alcohol and seeing if I notice any changes in my symptoms.

You didn't mention any ongoing heavy drinking...if you are, stop it is making you sick.

Any chest pain or heart arrhythmia should be checked at least by your primary care doctor, one who can give you an electrocardiogram check-up.  This is normal in physical examines for older people, so most PC doctors have the equipment and expertise to read the output.  That is the easiest way to get a general reading on you symptoms, and if they suggest to the PC doctor that you need to see a cardiologist, you'll be told.

I should have added that 'holiday heart' is not a life threatening condition

There is a condition the Dr's call holiday heart. These are palpitations people tend to get after a night of drinking. My Dr. said some people are more susceptible than others and can get it with very little drinking.

You are more than likely fine, but I would go see a cardiologist to make sure everything is ticking ok. You could always quit drinking for a few weeks and see if they completely go away. If they do, you will have a decision to make.
