PVC's Post Exercise

Hi Everyone,
I am a 24, almost 25 year old female. Don't smoke or do drugs, social drinker, normal weight. I felt my first PVC after taking an ephedra pill my first year of college. One week after my first SVT attack, my cardiologist ordered that I have a pacemaker implanted, which I'm not really sure I ever needed. Anyhow, after the implantation, I started to feel what I described as "Skipped Beats", which I now know are PVC's. My PVC's became frequent and bothersome almost immediately after the pacemaker was implanted. I use to be a runner, a ran track and cross country in high school. I refuse to run these days because of the amount of PVC's I experience post exercise. I ALWAYS get PVC's about 3-5 hours post cardio exercise. Depending on how severe my PVC's are will determine how soon I will suffer from an SVT attack. I usually go into SVT for about 5 minutes and then the PVC's are gone. Does anyone else experience this? Do you know why this happens to me post exercise and why SVT throws me back into a normal rhythm? Does anyone have any advice on how to stop these? I'm starting to think these could be hormone related. Also, there was a time when I was Vegan for 5 months. My PVC's stopped and I was up to running 3 miles a day with no symptoms. I'm thinking it might have to do with the hormones in our meat and diary products? The only reason I stopped the vegan diet was because I was losing a lot of hair. Any thoughts? Articles? References? Please share. I feel as it these "thumps" control my life. Thank you.

Hi, Thank you for your comment. Perhaps my post wasn't clear. The pacemaker was not implanted to control my SVT but to keep my heart rate at a "normal" level. However, after I got the pacer, my PVC's got a lot worse as they were nearly non-existant before implantation. My heart throws itself into SVT once it's had enough of the PVC's. For some reason after an SVT attack, my heart rate returns to normal. For the first two years after the implantation I was using it about 3% of the time and only when I was sleeping. As a healthy active female in her 20's, it is normal to have a heart rate that is in the 40's while sleeping. Over the years, I use my PM much more and that is because it is set higher and higher each time to bypass the PVC's. All my pm is really doing is helping with the PVC's. I would like to know if anyone else has PVC's 3-5 hours post exercise and if they think this could be hormone related.

I don't think the pacemaker and PVCs are related if the pacer is working properly.  When

I agree on the pacer implant.  that would be indicated for symptomatic bradycardia (slow heart rate).  that's all a pacer can do is speed your heart rate up, and the only reason why you'd want to do that is because, well it's too slow.

I've never heard of a pacemaker being used to pace-out SVT.  I could be wrong, someone correct me if I am.

If it were me, I'd like to know how often the pacemaker is activating.  Your doc's can tell this by interrogating it.    If it's not even getting used at all, perhaps consider removing it.

Hi Jerry,

Thank you for your post. Yes, a very quick decision to put in a PM. If I knew then what I know today, I would have never allowed them to put it in. Anyway, thank you for your post. I think I am going to see an endocrinologist. Hopefully, they can give me some answers.

Wow, on the quick decision to install a pacemaker at such a young age.  We do have one or more younger aged pacemaker patients on this Community, I hope they can give you some experience information.

Exercise with a pacemaker is something that is, I hope, approved by your doctor.  But, it sounds like you are doing fine in that regard... as for hormones, it is possible that could be a stimulus and problematic.  Make some tests on your diet to see if any improvement can be found.
