Stopping beta blocker, starting calcium channel blocker

I am currently on 50 mg of metoprolol for troublesome PVCs.  It's not really alleviating my symptoms, which are bothersome enough to disrupt my life. I went to a new cardiologist today who suggested I switch to a calcium channel blocker, diltiazem, 120 mg.  He said I will not have to taper the beta blocker first, just switch them out.  I know he's the Dr, but he's new to me.  I'm worried about just stopping one and starting another like this.  Any advice from folks who've maybe made this switch before? Anyone done it without a taper?
