Treadmill test - varying heart rate following this

Hi there

Has anyone else had an Exercise Tolerance Test (Treadmill test) where they had an inappropriate reaction after getting off the treadmill? my heart rate and resps started to come down following 10 mins of exercise but then all of a sudden my heart rate shot back up and I became very dizzy and felt faint with thumping palpitation.

I'd be very grateful to hear from anyone else who has had a similar response to exercise.

Many thanks

Hi there

I really don't think it is but I am not a Cardiologist. I am due to have an EP study and possible ablation in about 10 days time as the results of my 7 day monitor showed ? SVT (atrial Tachycardia in my case) even though clinically I meet a presentation of IST, if it turns out to be be IST, i'll have a sinus node modification.

I think that the fact that your heart rate is always raised makes you a candidate for considertion of IST, do you have any other symptoms at all?

Kind regards

S

Hey there. I have in pretty similar situation like yours and I need some help too.
Just today I had my treadmill stress test done. I walked for 15 min and in 15 min my HR reached 198 then I got exhausted and stopped but my Hr remained high. Even after 20 min my HR was 110. I always had high heart rate. When i started I had 110. Dr. said I had few extra beats but not concerned but the thing that my heart took a long time to come down got lil of my dr. attention but he said I don't need any medication and asked me to see him after 6 mo. He is a cardiologist.
I am 24, male, 146 lb had all my blood work done.
we can pretty similar case as our heart rate dind't came down for a while. any help please. Is this is normal?

My ECG just ST issues and because I was sitting in bed for 3 days there was no reason for the ST so they diagnoised me with IST.

I still wonder if something els is happening when I walk as thats when I feel the worst and thats when my BP monitor read irregular heart beat the most when I standing or after walking and still standing. I'm having an echo done in june that will be interesting I get to see my own heart working(my partner say's There just checking to make sure I have a heart lol). On one hand I'd rather have a fixable problem on the other hand I'm happy to have some help from the Ivabradine. So far the Ivabradine has helped me to beable to stand up for a fue hours before I feel really tired and walked faster for about 30 min with out feeling like I was going to pass out or fall down. my pulse now rarly gets over 130 and before I would 150 adverage when standing.

take care.

Hi

Yes the plan is try me on Ivabadine once any dangerous rhythms have been excluded by this ETT and also a 7 day event monitor which I had fitted a few weeks ago (haven't had results yet). Do you have abnormalities on your ecgs apart from sinus tachy?

I had a tight chest and shallow breathing with my IST and Ivabradine has helped heaps with these symptom's I'm surprised that it was not reconmended for you if IST is suspected to the most likly cause. It has give me the abilty to stand up for a lot longer and walk a lot faster with out as much tachycardia.

Thank you for your comments. I have a 10 month history of palpitations, shortness of breath on even minimal exertion (i.e someimes just going upstairs), dizziness and I have fainted twice, I also have on occasion chest discomfort/mild pain and ?etoptics beats which wake me from sleep (sudden jolt to chest).

I am 29, I am not overweight and a non smoker and would say I was in fair physical shape before my problems started as I have always walked my dogs for around 30 mins each day and did go to the gym during the summer months if I could (but no continuously).

I have had many resting ecgs taken which show some minor abnormalities - Right bundle branch block, inverted T waves and sometimes ST depression or shift. I have had a 24 hr ecg which caught tachycardia at times of exertion or symtoms, an echocardiograme was normal I believe. I was referred to a EP as my cardiologist thought the symtoms were consistant with IST but as there was other abnormalities he wanted me to be checked out just in case it was anything else hence being referred for the ETT which I had on Monday.

I had to stop after 10mins 13sec as I had been experiencing chest discomfort which was not allowing me to get enough air into my lungs (maybe this is a fittness thing?) but I am more concerned abt the response after the test, like I mentioned before, my heart rate and resps were coming down nicely and then all of a sudden I felt very unwell and my heart rate shot up again, I felt very dizzy like I might passout and my palpitations were very fast and hard

Many thanks

I did not get told I was allowed to skip to PE I resort to pure stubborness as the adults were not listening to me about how bad I felt when I tryed to run. I suspect I have issues with tackycardia since I was young but it only recently got bad.

I managed to pass my treadmill portion (surprised even me) but my heart went wacky during the resting portion. Not unusual for me to have bursts of tachy and lots of PVC's after I exert myself. But the nurses weren't too pleased. I just laid on the table and smiled, told them it was normal for me. I was just glad to get through the treadmill portion without going tachy or having chest pain. Made me proud.

I'm a bit overweight now since my Dad died and I've been stress eating but still in OK shape physically. They never mentioned my weight. I'd love to lose those 10 lbs though. And I've never been able to run, even as a child, because I would get serious tachy and pain. In high school they finally got the message and allowed me to skip PE.

I have always struggled to jog let alone do a treadmill test not sure what you did on the treadmill as you really did not discribe it fully. I was recently diagnoised with Inappropraite sinus tachycardia I really have know idea how long I've had it for but I seriously suspect that I have issues it since I was kid but it only worse recently. The Dr have no clue why this happening to me or when it might fix it self or if will go away at all.

I seriouly susject that keep notes of how you feel and what your doing at the time because information is power. The more you can tell your Dr's the better the answers you can get from the Dr's if there answers to get. Try not to worry.

More info would help to understand what exactly the test involved etc.

I don't see why people assume the worst cant you be keep the sterio typing in your head and pull out some positive thought's. This is exactly the attiude that has take me years to get push past my anxiety and seek help for how I feel and tell Dr's that I know its not related to my weight gain and depression.

I have many tests and many hours on a tread mill for exercise - not heart problems.  But, I was in a good condition physically.

We'd be better able to relate if we knew your general physical condition.  If it is very low/poor, i.e., mostly no exercise other than walking to the car, then that's one thing.  If you are a regular walker, say more than 5 km 4 times a week or even more active, then that's another.

My guess is you are not in strong physical condition and your body was reacting to a physical load to which it was not accustom to handling.
