I would definitely search for a second opinion. I have a wide complex ventricular tachycardia. I have had this for about 5 years. I was being treated with meds and then referred to an electrophysiologist of an ablation. To make the story short, i was then referred to yet another EP because the VT was out of control. I eneded up at one of the coountry's best hospital, and they claimed they couldn't find a spot to ablate because it "floated" so the put in an ICD.. Well the story goes on and the VT kept raoring up.. I finally searched and found a doctor 700 miles away to look at my records. He was able to ablate the area and seems that the meds I was being loaded up with by those that put in the ICD... were actually making the VT worse and I am now told that I never needed the ICD! Be careful... seek an electrophysiologist that is willing to try ablating first! I am stuck with the device for now!
Hi i have supraventricular tachycardia, and have been told it is not dangerous or life threatening. I think your ventricular tachycardia has the potential to send you into dangerous rythms which is most likely the reason they have advised you to have an icd. If i were you i would do some further research on the internet, get some more feedback from others who have had this done to reassure you. I don't think they would suggest this if they did not think it necessary. My heart rate regularly goes as fast as 180, but usually corrects itself which yours doesn't. I would seriously consider agreeing to icd, it will make a big difference to your life and save you going through the trauma of being shocked constantly. Good luck
