I think it should not beep. Who put the heart monitor on your aunt? That person should have provided instructions on "what to do" and why. Does she have any written material?

Many heart monitors have a "beep" that's tied to your heart rate that can be turned on or off. Your battery powered monitor should also have a battery meter showing the current battery level.
