Why Rest is needed post Hep A infection

My son 18, contacted Acute Hep A 2 weeks back, now recovering with all lab markets coming back to normal. He's active, plays basketball and taking complete rest is spooking him out. Doctor has advised no sports, no outings and rest for the next 2 months, just college and rest!! Why is all rest and no play so important for recovery? Some objective answers will help me to convince him to follow medical advice. Thanks. --Ramky

Hi,
I was wondering if I could talk to you or your son about hepatitis a? I am doing a project on the diseases of the body systems and I need to interview someone who has had it or someone who has taken care of someone who has had it. Please let me know!

Hi well the spleen was for Mono.
So sorry
I did find the same thing your doctor said 6 weeks of rest though I also found this information some people recover in 2 months, some take 6 months.

Older children and adults feel very sick and weak. Symptoms may
include the following:

Fever

Loss of appetite (not wanting to eat)

Tiredness

Stomach pain

Vomiting

Dark urine

Yellow skin and eyes
People feel sick 2 to 6 weeks after they get the hepatitis A virus.
How serious is hepatitis A?
Most people with hepatitis A feel very sick for about 2 months.
Some people are sick for up to 6 months.
There is no specific treatment for hepatitis A. Some people with
hepatitis A get so sick that they need care in the hospital. About
100 people in the U.S. die each year from liver failure caused by Hepatitis A.

So sorry I could not be of any help.  I guess when we are young we think we will always be strong and don't need to listen to doctors.  When we are older we realize we should have listened.
Good luck

Hi from what I can remember it has to do with not doing sports due to possibly injuring the spleen. I will be back

Hello, in order for his body to heal he has to rest.  If he continues to play sports the outcome could be very bad. I will look it up to find something else for you.
