Does hepatitis b makes you always feel unwell.

I have been hep b positive for many years now. But for the past 3 years i have been consistently unwell. I always feel malaise. My dna is normally around 2000 and my lft and ultrasound are always normal. I am now really confused and I have done everything but nothing seems to work. I want to know whether my constant feeling of unwellness is due to hepatitis b. In recent times i have started feeling some slight pain on the left side of my rib where the liver is located. I am beginning to suspect maybe my liver is damaging but the lft andthe uultrasound is unable to pick it up.

Hi
Talking about anxiety and depression, I started suffering from severe anxiety some 2 years ago due to stress (hbv was detected this year February). Also experienced depression, I did go for counseling, I am not on any antidepressant. What brought me out of the dark pit is  a book "At last a life" by Paul David, who suffered anxiety for 10 years.

I do not know if hbv causes anxiety and depression or it is psychological effect after the diagnosis.

I am much better now, I am on entecavir 0.5mg. I do feel my energy levels are not the same as they were a year ago, but I am still active (go out cycling etc).

I need to tune up my diet. I am vegetarian and hardly eat junk food. No alcohol

Stephen, so are you sayingvthafvthe chronic infection is causing your depression and anxiety? Or are you saying the treatment is?  And you didn't respond about how long you have been on TDF?  Are you on any antidepressants?

Living with a chronic illness can have both physical and mental effects. With advancing age, these effects do not get easier and can infect increase, especially increased feeling of anxiety and depression. Let's be honest, in today's world, everyday brings new uncertainty. So we should all be aware of our mental, as well as, physical wellbeing. Seek help is important.

You asked, "does makes you always feel unwell?", i've to answer affirmatively to your question, unfortunately for me. I'm in similar situation regarding the status of my chronic hbv as you, and i feel exactly as you've described.
This is a quote of what is written in www.hepatitisaustralia.com regarding symptoms in chronic hbv patients:

"Most people with chronic hepatitis B do not have any symptoms of infection which means they may feel healthy and not be aware they are infected. However, other people may experience symptoms which are similar to those experienced with other forms of viral hepatitis. These can include:

tiredness, depression and irritability
pain in the liver (upper, right side of abdomen)
nausea and vomiting
loss of appetite
joint aches and pains."

hbv chronic infection makes no symptoms itself and makes no damage itself, a low percentage after a life of infection gets liver damage, cirrhosis or liver cancer (after 40-50years).usually symptoms are vitamin d deficiency (universally present on hbv carriers) which itself makes liver, kidneys, bones, metabolic, immune system damage and making vitd25oh around 100ng/ml makes energy come back and repairs damage especially to immune system

Stef, could it be possible to live a long and healthy life without treatment if you are chronic HBV by birth.  My mother of 60 years and her liver panel is normal.  If the virus goes in phases then she must of gotten into the control phase with issues?  I'm assuming at some point she was in the active phase and now has it under control without treatment.

Hi bobby
I don't know how i got hepB, it was detected February 2016 in a blood test done for insurance purpose. Past one year or so I do feel unwell, and low energy, and low mood, no fever or anything. I was not like this, I was always healthy and active cyclist doing 200, 100km rides, and now it's different (may be psychological due this  diagnosis). I think I caught it last year when I had major dental surgery. But yes, I I do feel unwell. Don't know about others.

BTW liver is under Right side ribs, and not on left as you mentioned.
