Switching to TAF

It has been almost 7 years that I am taking TDF with no kidney or bone issues as far as I know. Before TDF, I took ETV for two years but since it was very slow to reduce my virus DNA, we decided to switch to TDF and since taking TDF I had undetectable DNA. Now that my doctor wants to switch me to TAF, I wonder what members of this community think about it. My only concern is that I remember Steff was talking about the resistance profile of TAF and not enough data to support it, especially since ETV could not reduce my DNA to undetected in two years I am afraid I might have some resistance. Whats your experience with TAF?

Hi how old are you?  How long have u been taking taf? Doctor told m to take taf is vemlidy right? Im scared of the flare up it can cause, it says one you stop taking it, it can worsen your liver

Another thing is im just completely surprised how many people on the Hep B mail list group report kidney problems on TDF. But again I cant determine how that fits in with the general population.

TDF and TAF both deliver the same drug, the resistance profile might be even better in TAF than TDF. I remember studyforhope shared something where the delivery of tenofovir in TAF to the liver was 1.4 times TDF, but it was 15 times more in the non liver tissues.

There is a lot of people on the Hepatitis B Mail list that are complaining about Kidney toxicity on TDF, which I am very surprised about since it was supposed to be a rare side effect.

U r supposed to be on safer side when u have to go a long way through. Taf is researched to be more safer in long term studies. Common men cannot analyse kidney damage by tdf because it's not that specific. Hence only thing left is to go with the better option that has been developed after long research.

TAF is supposed to be a lot safer in general and people have reported improved kidney and other parameters.

But I still would like to know about the 15 fold increase in tissues. This is good for HIV but we need to understand what this introduces for non HIV patients.

Im really hoping Contravirs TXL works out. I dont know how many of the drugs in the past were meant for HIV and borrowed for Hep B.

I have also shifted to taf from this month and it's about a week now. Concerns could be there as the actual dose of tenofovir in taf 25mg is reduced 12 times than in tdf 300mg and certainly there isn't any long term data to see the results. However drugs are released only after thorough studies over years so just cross ur from ngers and wait for a good outcome. U don't have much options than to move on with what is in front ahead. Lastly u cannot continue risking ur kidney to hazards of high dose of tdf. Remaining compensatory things ur body will do to protect u.

Your Dr is right taf has no resistance and have no side effects like bone loss and kidney toxic
