Start of Phase 3 of a therapeutic vaccine for the treatment of hepatitis B

01/03/2015

ABIVAX, a biotechnology company announced that began the clinical trial phase 2-b / 3 in 230 patients with HBeAg negative 50 clinical centers in several countries of Asia and Pacific region to assess whether the ABX203 may represent a significant improvement in treatment of chronic hepatitis B, through control of viral load for a longer period of time compared to the current treatment options.

ABX203 is a therapeutic vaccine composed of two recombinant proteins including hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) and the nucleocapsid structure (core) (HBcAg). ABX203 is designed to induce the production of serum neutralizing antibodies against HBsAg and the induction of strong cellular responses. These immune responses are similar to those that occur in patients with acute hepatitis B infection and can heal spontaneously. ABX203 being applied as a nasal spray and also as a solution for subcutaneous injection, both treatments with 24 weeks.

In phase 1 and 2 held in Cuba and Bangladesh by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB, Havana, Cuba) showed that ABX203 was well tolerated and had a similar antiviral effect to the pegylated interferon, but that undetectable viral load was sustained by at least 6 months after end of treatment in contrast to what happens when discontinuing treatment with pegylated interferon. - See more at: http://hepato.com/p_hepatite_b/016_hbv_port.php#sthash.5FriPd6x.d

Ohh that means combining abx203 with tdf and peginterferon still don't provide hbsag clearance.
We r fed up of such incomplete drugs

Actually. Rate of cure(hbsag loss) is still low. By all available medicine we had. Abivax abx203 just provide hope for stopping antivirals. It decrease rate of disease relapse after stopping tenofovir or entecavir from 80% to 60%.
Far from cure.
Please ensure u took good medicine to suppress your viruses and do regular ultrasonography of ur liver to screen liver cancer.

Hepatologist.
