hepatitis b and marriage

My girlfriend and I are thinking about getting married.  We are not sexually active together and won't be until marriage.  However, my girlfriend has Hepatitis B and we are concerned about our future together.  I have been vaccinated for HBV.  These are the questions we have:

1) what treatments are available?  [ Her friend told her that the treatments presently available for Hepatitis B are very risky and can cause the virus to increase.  Is this true? ]

2) does my family have to get vaccinated also?

3) does the HBV vaccine protect me when we have sex?

4) how often do I need to get re-vaccinated?

5) does having Hepatitis B affect our ability to have children?

6) will the virus be transmitted to our children?

imconfused1985's girlfirend has HBV. a full analysis of her HBV is what you call "panel"
she will know if she is hbeag postive or negative , core postive or negative, viral load  and DNA Quantation , amongst other things the lab will forward to her doctor.
all this is called panel
she may be in need to treatment , and on the other hand , she may  just be a healthy carrier that will probably enjor her life as if this virus does not exist

this is a serious virus and need constant montiring - for life , that is - but enough treatment options are there to contain it and may even keep it in check.

best of luck

answer: no it is not true. treatment is available to bring down HBV DNA level to an undetectable stage . her HBV panel sho tell you what stage she is at right now. anyway the answer to your  question is no

2) does my family have to get vaccinated also?

not necessarly , please read how this virus is transmitted and see idf that will ever apply to your interactions with your wife or visa versa.

3) does the HBV vaccine protect me when we have sex?
if you are vaccinated, you are immune so yes it does protect you

4) how often do I need to get re-vaccinated?
thats it, you're done. one time will be just fine

5) does having Hepatitis B affect our ability to have children?
no

6) will the virus be transmitted to our children?
children are vaccinated against Hep B in the firs12 hours after they are born. in fact, it is the first vaccine shot they are introduced to in their brand new young life.

you still need to discuss all these things with her doctor and i am sure they will give her the best advise.

has your girlfriend had a Hep B panel done ? u know what it is?
