feelings

where are the feelings? ever since IFN i'm feeling like a stone, i have no desire to have sex, i'm not hungry and feel the food, i'm not happy when the food is good for example.it's like an unbreakable wall that keeps me awayfrom human feelings. i don't feel anything from music, i don't havefear, i'm never scared of anything... there are no signals in my spine anymore. i don't feel connected to people anymore. i feel confined, away, capsuled... my memories seem so far away... will this ever end?

well, i read that microglia cells have a half life of years to lifetime and that means that unless you don't kill off the microglia by yourself it won't regrow and return to it's resting mode by itself. These cells are like teeth. You wear them forever and if they're broken, they don't grow back newly.
And once the Inferferon makes them super sensitive they are super sensitive forever and ever.
But i guess there is a way to stop this vicious cycle. By drugs who inhibit their activation, by drugs who counter ROS(reactive oxygen species) production and calm down the inflammatory processes.
The best way is to kill them off and let them regrow newly. That can be archieved by PLX3397 for example. But this is only an option. I think a good result can also be archieved by taking the right drugs, stay away from wheat and lactose and living a healthy life....
it's mainly about decisions..

I understand the logic of this. What are the right drugs though ?Since interferon even a valium makes me feel unwell and tried provigil  which made me feel awful. Of course these drugs would be only palliative but do you know of ones that counter ROS production ?

As Scottie said you described the syndrome well. I take heart that people have come back from it but it seems to be a long road.I am not there yet but have more acceptance and patience...just take each day as it comes.

Do get your calcium and Vitamin D3 checked, even a year after Tx, mine was unusally low. I know what you are saying, it is harder to feel those happy feelings, the dopamine thing sounds right, but it can get better, but takes a bit of effort to get. I became a member of the Museum of  Art and take art days to nurture my soul. I walk a the zoo. I have to remind myself I am cured, and hopefully will live long enough to be a grandparent, and not die of liver cancer.

I on't think the powers that be have any dea what truly causes the bizarre and horrible symptoms so well described by lookbehindyou.  I know when I was in the throes of it I felt like I had been tainted by evil.  Time helps.  It's torture, though, and I don't think the doctors have any idea how bad it is.

Hey there! I am so sorry to hear this.  How long has it been since you finished interferon?  What else did you use?  It takes time for all of these things to return.  I hate to say it but it is the truth, time is what it takes.  I did read an article once, even referenced it, that interferon reduces our dopamine, the feel good chemical in our brain.  I started taking Tyrosine.  I also tried NADH, it helped,  Keep looking you will find other suggestions, like daily vitamin, B12, Vitamin D.  I personally think that it depletes other things in our body but have only been able to find Dopamine reduction.  If you have any cramps then take calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc.  I hope the best for you.  Oh try searching for Gaufs List, he had a long list of supplements that he thought would help, Dee
