72 Weeks Worked For Me!

Just had my 6 month PCR. Undetected! Could not have made it with out you guys.  Words can never express how much I appreciate you all.  This forum is a blessing. You all kept me going when I thought I couldn't make it one more day. A special blessing to all the old timers who give your time and support to us. I would not have made it through 72 weeks without your knowledge and experience. I wanted to quit treatment so many times but I would get on this forum and draw the strenghth from your posts. Now here I am SVR!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello to all my dear friends on MedHelp!

Yep, skersj, we 72-weekers know how invaluable the MedHelp support group is. I wouldn't have made it without you.

I am a member of another forum for another issue now (not medical). Too little math there for me though, some statistics once in a while that is all... I miss the good times calculating viral loads and medicine dosages here on MedHelp.

Skersj, my doctor started me on .025 synthroid, we will see what I end up on. I am going back to the doc for new blood tests in a couple of weeks. I too am fighting the weight issue still. I gained weight post treatment, and I figure the low-functioning thyroid played its part in that.

Portann, our daughters are fine. They have wonderful boyfriends all three. They are growing up: 14, 17 and 25.

Hugs to all my friends on MedHelp! Hope you are all doing well! And becoming hep-C-free one after one!

Thanks everyone. Sorry to hear about  your thyroid Zazza. I have continued .075 synthroid and thyroid has stayed in normal range so I think synthroid is with me for life now. SVR is great but now fighting the weight.  I was so used to eating everytime I felt like it on treatment. Now I can't.  Because I feel like eating all the time!  It has leveled off this month. I at least quit gaining.

Redding, Bill already answered your question beautifully. My thoughts are with you. The wait and the "not knowing" is tough. I sure hope you are clear. Please come back and let us know.

We use the term ‘SVR’ (Sustained Viral Response) synonymously with cure when discussing HCV.

It’s defined by completing our treatment with undetectable viral load; then, removing the treatment drugs, we go an additional six months, maintaining this undetectable status. If we can accomplish this task without having the virus reappear, we’ve achieved SVR.

SVR has been proven durable in 99.9+% of cases, and is used interchangeably with the term cure by hepatologists universally.

What does that mean 6 month pcr neg? I'm new to all of this. Do you have to keep testing or does that mean you have been cured? If so what was you course of treatment and was it with new/old drugs. I'm just trying to get ready for my bombshell on Tues. I find out if I'm pos. My husband tested postive but his body killed off the virus (or al least to undetectable amounts on 2 PCR tests over 2 years.

Cool is right...and hello there, Ms. Math!

Great to see you but sorry to hear about the sub-clinical hypothyroidism. Something for all of us to keep an eye on.

So hugs back, Za, and hope all is well with you and your girls.

Regards,
Susan

Wow, hi Za! How cool to see you back again; I’m sorry to hear of the thyroid problems though. I suppose you have to attribute this to the interferon; what a shame. Thanks for stopping by; we miss our math teacher :)

Congratulations!

I haven't been on MedHelp for a long time, but coming here today I was just wondering about you. Wonderful news! So happy for you! 72 weeks does the trick for many of us!

How is your thyroid doing? I just got diagnosed with sub-clinical hypothyroidism, so it does seem like I did not escape this permanent side-effect after all. My TSH went down to 3.0 after treatment, but is now up at 5.16 again two years after tx. This is a warning to all that if you do not return all the way down to pre-tx  numbers, your thyroid might not be okay after all.

But I still think it was worth it. Enjoy your hep-C free life! It is so good to not be contagious anymore. :)

Hugs,
Zazza

Congratulations. Results like yours are so encouraging.  I have another 6 weeks to go.  My Dr has said, 64 weeks will be perfect from the point at which I was totally undetectable.  Just the additional 10 weeks so far has been difficult.  You so want to say no more, but at the same time I want the best chance for SVR.

Live long and prosper
