B Shield has Decided I should be Cured at 8 Weeks

Hi all. Geno 2. Initial load of 14,000 copies, F3 fibroscan,(used to drink and smoke) 12 week prescript of Sovaldi and Ribavirin.  In their ultimate wisdom, Blue Shield has decided,at 8 weeks, that I am cured, and will therefore fund no more Sovaldi. I did clear to und within 2 weeks of start. I have remained und. I experience anemia at a 10 rating rbc. They want proof that I still carry the virus. Of course, they know it cannot be detected while on 1000 mg of Ribavirin and 400mg Sovaldi. Pretty tricky. I do have one trick up my sleeve however. I purchased a 28 day supply of Sovaldi from a friend who can't use it. It is unopened 400 mg.
He lost almost 1/2 his blood during an event while treating. It is 3 months out of date, but I will use it. My doctor wants to go to 16 weeks just to make 100% sure I am clear. I don't know if I could take it. I just took my am 3 Riba. Oh boy. Another fun day of depression, anger, and no energy. I work every day and I am about done. I may just take my chances with the 12 week, or may try and find a way to go with 16. I just don't seem to have the drive to make the 16 weeks of continued fun happen at this point. I am grateful to my higher power that the spare 28 day supply is in the fridge, sealed ,and wrapped. I know this is not a question, but just wanted to voice my feelings here. Best to all, Leagh

When have insurance companies become the expert and not the doctors? We have all been or know someone who has been affected by this practice. I am seeing a consistant complaint as I read  many posts from pain management  to treatment oh HCV. My insurance  company for my short term disability, Prudential has to review my case bi-weekly before they pay me even though I am in end stage cirrosis.  So-I get it. Insurance companies are not  acting in an ethical  manner -in my opinion.  Good luck.

Leah I am glad you were able to get enough for 12 weeks. I hope someone comes along with tx protocol. If it's 12 weeks that's what I would do but I am not a doctor, good luck, please keep in touch
