ALINIA ROCKS!!! G1 UND 2 WEEK PCR!

180 IFN/1200 RIBA/ 500mg Aliniax2 daily, G1, 289,000baseline vl, stage 3 grade 1, 54 years old, 37years infected, 5'10" 170lb, general good health. Now of course there is no way for me to KNOW that the Alinia helped this very rapid responce as I do have a couple of good predictors (ie. low vl/low body weight/good health) I'm gonna say now what I've been thinking for some time. With what we already know about the G4 trials, it's limited, succesful, use in G1s, it's availability, and very low sx profile, WHY would anyone not add Alinia to SOC?? . I had the chance to get into the Telapivir trial but opted for the Alinia becuase of the daunting sx and disappointing SVR results with the vx950. I struggled with the decision but if I didn't have the 2 options NO WAY I would do SOC only! Man-o-man! what great news today!! jerry

Thanks all. moa, Yes, that will be the next , what could be life changing decision. I loathe 48 weeks of treatment but does one risk such promising results?

It is hard not to conclude that Alina is really exciting, as is any treatment which doesn't add material symptoms. Well done - long way to go still, but well on your way to SVR. You must be a candidate for 6 months treamtent now (or perhaps mid 30 week stop?)

2 weeks is amazing no matter what in the world happened even if you started with a VL of ten!

Seriously - excellent just absolutely wonderful news!

Wow, 2 weeks is amazing even if you started with a low vl.  Congratulations!!

That's great news!!!!

Jim is right (of course) in that a low load is a positive predictor of SVR even w/o Alinia but there are a couple of reasons why you made the smart decision.
You pointed out the chance of getting a placebo only.
The other reason is no rescue drugs. Lets say you get in the SOC and  Teleprevir arm and your white cells or your red cells go low. You have to reduce your peg or Riba dose if you are in a trial. That could severely effect your chances of SVL, whereas if you are on your own, you can use rescue drugs and keep the prescribed dose.

That's awesome! You have this in the bag, while we can't 'count our chickens', you can surely rest easier on your chances here.

Keep going, LL

Curious, you say you were infected 37 years ago. Did you by any chance have a symtomatic acute stage, i.e. jaundice, dark urine, etc, etc.

Yeah, I was planning on talking to you 'bout shortening treatment. Man, that is going to be a really tough one. jerry ps If I had my druthers I would have done soc/pi/alinia!!

Bottom line is that a week 2 RVR is fantastic, regardless of why. And yes, if I had the choice of SOC versus SOC plus Alinia, I'd probably go SOC plus Alinia plus maybe a little pre-dosing of both riba and statins :) Still though, the PI route seems the best route for many in your mold, but you appeared to have broken it, so who cares, hey! Ill check the other post out. BTW how long are you thinking of treating with such an early UND? I'm guessing 48 weeks cause you're stage 3 but chances are you could get away with less.

I agree, and as stated I struggled with the decision. I am not in a trial, my Dr prescribed Alina "off label". The possibility of ending up in a control played no small part in my decision. Like I said, no way I would choose SOC alone over SOC/Alinia. Why not go for a little edge? Jim, take a look at my other post if you would as I would greatly value your imput. thanks, jerry

Congratulations, this is big I never heard about anyone that was UND week 2 that didn´t made it to SVR, very much doubt anybody has.

How much easier it is to continue after such a result isn`t it.

may the good God bless you even more

That's terrific, but if considering treatment now, I'd certainly want to know if your viral response was representative of the trial or you simply were an RVR for other reasons. All the vl numbers you gave within one log so not different in a meaningful way. They were also all LOW which is a positive predictor of SVR even if only SOC. I'm not knocking Alinia at all, but I'd be careful taking it over a PI trial without comparing both data very carefully.

That is fanastic for you and very encouraging for me.

You did pre-dose with just Alinia for 4 weeks, didn't you, then added the SOC drugs?  I am curious.  Did your vl go down much during the 4 weeks with Alinia only, or did the virus killing start when the SOC drugs were introduced?

Thanks,
dointime
