Confussed about UND VL

Hep C, RNA, Quantiative,PCR  has 3 ranges- In range, Out of range,  and an Reference range, before week 12 i was always out of range then on week twelve it said  HCV RNA (IU/ML)In range<50 what was used as a reference range was <50 IU/ml then my HCV RNA (LOg IU/ML) was in range <1.70 refereence was <1.70 log IU/ml. I have done some rseearch and it said that this was one of the most sensitive test. This means i am udt because thats what i have been thinking. History before week twelve was VL 1,450,000 and was out of range before treatment , week 4 222,000 out of range, week 8- 65,200 out of range. My  log was 6.16 before treatment, week 4 -5.35, week 8- 4.81. I am thinking this is undetected because i am in range now. please help me understand does it have to say undetected.

I think - but am not sure -  that you were undetectible to the bottom range of the test at 12 weeks.  That is, the test was  accurate to 50.  You could have virons less than 50 but the test would not be able to detect them.  There are tests that test down to 5 (Quest Heptimax)and 2 (LabCorp QuantaSure) and I would recommend having another PCR done that will go that low.  You had significant VL at week 8 so you do want to be sure you are clear.  Having read your profile I am sure you want to give this treatment as much time as necessary to clear.

Your stats are similar to mine.  My beginning VL was about 1.5 million IU/mL.  I am 1a, my biopsy report reflects grade 1 (inflammation) and state 1-2 (fibrosis).  MY week 4 test was 2320 IU/mL and my week 12 VL was 40 IU/mL.  I would not have known I still had active virons had I not had a test down to 2 IU/mL.  Although I treated for 56 weeks which was 36 weeks after my first (sensitve) UND PCR, I did not clear.

Good luck
