Hi Hector, In his title of his post, Hawaii777 said that he was on Infergen. I know Infergen can be used in different ways. When my husband took Infergen in 2010 it was a daily injection of Infergen and 1400 mg/day of Ribavirin. My question is I wonder why his doctor would put him through the grueling "Consensus Interferon" or Infergen treatment rather than go to triple tx. I guess knowing the OP's genotype or some other information may answer that question.

I am sorry you had to stop treatment because the virus came back.
By the way, what treatment were you on?
What genotype are you?
When you say you have mild to moderate cirrhosis what you mean?
Do you have portal hypertension yet?
An enlarge spleen low platelet counts when not on treatment, varices, fluid retention?
You have a viral breakthrough unfortunately. The treatment was not able to suppress the virus enough to prevent it from replicating again. Your viral load may soon be higher than before you started treatment.
A Null-response, partial response, breakthrough and relapse are the ways that a patient can fail to achieve SRV. SVR=cured. Many different factors contribute to whether treatment will work or not. Among them...
The treatment itself:
- Its antiviral activity
- Its barrier to resistance
The patient:
- genotype
- IL28B
- stage of liver disease
- Previous response to interferon treatment
"I hope my liver will regenerate itself slowly"
I am afraid the won't happen. The hepatitis C virus is back and will continue to damage your liver. You still need to cure your hepatitis C for your cirrhosis to stop its progression.
Best of luck.
Stay healthy and fit as long as you can. It will give you the best chance of finding a treatment that works for you.

My husband took daily Infergen (also known as Consensus Interferon) injections + 1400 mg. of Ribavirin daily back in 2010. That was by far his most difficult treatment. Incredibly tough. Why were you taking Infergen? Were you taking daily injections? Infergen did not work for my husband, he only responded partially and had to stop treatment.
What genotype are you?
