Dont Ask a PCP a Question About HCV

As some of  you know I have been in the hospital since Monday. Long boring story. Anyways one of the problems was my system crashed my liver enzymes went up into the 100s, I was throwing up blood, my electolytes went nuts etc etc.

Anyhow this morning i asked again, the PCP on my case why did my LFTs go up so high I have been SVR for over 4 years and they have never been higher than 20/25.  She told me that my hepatitis came back and it was active. I said no I had my blood work last month and they were right in the 20s I have been cured over 4 years and UND for 6.  She had the nerve to tell me that our hep comes and goes that we are never cuired because it is always acrtive and so our enzymes will always go up and down.

Now, this was at 6am.  I haven't eaten in 5 days. They wake you up every two hours. I lost it I just said Doctor you obviously dont know what you are talking about so please leave my room because I'm not about to argue with you and your old out of date education.

She snarked at me in her Indian accent which I can't copy here and was like humph.................good this is why we have such bad reputations.  Why would we bother to treat if we had lfts in the 100s all the times out of the blue our hep would just come and go like she told me.

Oh I am MAD. I am outta here discharging now.

Sorry I had to vent at the ignorance. I'm just so tired and so MAD.

My doctor told me today that pcps are prescribing telepravir on it's ow without SOC because they are so ignorant of the disease and treatment.  Vertex is sending reps out to train them. It is so important that we take responsibility for our own health care. Hope that you are feeling better.

I have had the exact same thing happen including cr_p written on the release form. I hope everything works out for you, but I have never had a Dr. stick-up for me or even look into a situation, no matter how obviously wrong it was,( it seems to be a code of ethics.) which is why I always do it myself just to make me feel better, or try to get over it fast if I feel there is nothing I can do.
This is a classic example of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing.

I'm glad you're away from there, I'm sure things will look brighter soon, I,m sure you know what to do, wait a week to get over it then take off early one day, go buy a new outfit then go home and take a warm bubble-bath        O O       before going out.
