Genotype result is in

Hello all,

I got my genotyping result and I am a 2b. That's good right? I have my first appointment with the hepatologist tomorrow  and am glad to have this info in hand when I see him. Since all my blood test have come back normal Platelets 198, albumin 4.5, Bilirubin 0.4 (direct .01 indirect 0.3) ALP 36, CBC all completely normal I'm probably a good candidate to wait for the sofosbuvir non-interferon treatment? I'm not sure if a biopsy will be recommended at this point? I read something about not doing biopsies for genotype 2. I know I will have more answers tomorrow at my appointment. but am trying to wrap my head around what this might mean for me. I am not wanting to start another thread about the treat now or wait issue but would appreciate any feed back from those who are more knowledgeable than I.

Thanks!

Klonny55 if you have hepc then yes, 2b is a better geno type to have.  I had 2b and SVR after 6 months of treatment.  Good luck with your appointment.  Make a list of all the questions you have for your doctor!
All the best........

It important to get a biopsy so you will know what stage your liver is at.  The results of the biopsy will determine if you can wait for treatment or not.

I just came from the hepatologist and have my biopsy scheduled  for May 25. I  was told that Dartmouth Hitchcock/Mayo Clinic is not treating any genotype 2 infections until the new drugs are available no matter what the result of  biopsies. They are saying one year from now until the drugs are available. I would guess they are being cautious with their predictions.

Hi! Welcome! Lucky you! 2b is a good thing! I'm a 2b also and as far as the biopsy I did have one. But I have read the same thing it's not always recommended. I also know that my first Dr. had to talk with my insurance co. about getting it approved. My AFP marker was high so he was just being thorough. But that's all the good he did. Lol. New Dr. now, alls good! But very happy for you. I'm not up to speed on the new drugs, plenty of people on here are. I'm sure you've read some of the current threads. So good luck to you!!!   Kitty
