"I should add that I have an allergy to latex and the insert states that I should not take it if I have a severe allergy to latex. "

While a Hep C positive person should generally have the Hep A and B vaccines, if you have allergies to any of the products listed on the insert, then I think you should discuss the vaccines, your reaction to the vaccines, and your allergies with your treating doctor.
You are correct that an allergic reaction to a product or substance can get more severe. That is because your body is building up a sensitivity to the product each time you come into contact with the product. Eventually, that allergic reaction could be very severe, even fatal.
I could be wrong, but I don't think any doctor is going to risk causing an allergic reaction.
I wasn't actually the one snaking, I was just the helper, but I was definitely uneasy about it. We didn't have the money to call the plumber and I didn't really have a choice. I'm definitely rethinking the vaccines, though. I think an allergic reaction to a vaccine may be better than contracting hep a right now, but I just don't know. If my dr faxes him a letter explaining that it's not in my best interest then he'll let it slide. He said he doesn't know my medical history like my other dr's do, so he really just wants faxes from them covering all bases. He wouldn't discuss "acceptable" forms of birth control with me because that's not "his area". I kinda like the fact that he's relying on my other dr's and not just trying to tell me what's best before he gets to know me.
Meant to say "discussed your concerns with your doctor."
I should add that I have an allergy to latex and the insert states that I should not take it if I have a severe allergy to latex. I get hives in areas where they repeatedly touch me with latex gloves and I'm usually itchy for 3-5 days after a pap if they use latex gloves. They are not severe hives and usually go away any where from an hour to a day later. I've read that latex allergies can get worse suddenly without warning, this makes me nervous, as well because this is a new allergy in the last couple years.
Have you discussed your concerns about the hep a & b vaccines? Of course, no one knows your body / mind better than yourself and so, regardless of advice rely on yourself to make this decision.
As far as I know there isn't a waiting time between getting vaccines and starting tx. Someone else may have better information on this.
Given that you feel your "immune system is messed up" you might make a wiser choice than snaking out a sewer system to protect yourself.
Best of luck in beating the hep C.
Hi Run, you need to get vaccinated for A & B immediately. You don't want the combination with Hep C. It's only 3 shots where the A & B are combined into one shot. You will do the first two within a couple of weeks of each other and then the last one about 6 months later. I am surprised your Dr would even consider tx without the first two given to you. I had the first two already and am waiting to start tx. My last shot will be in August. And by the way they did not make me ill just a sore arm since they shoot it in the muscle. So please take care of this.
