Hep C being Sexually Transmitted ?

Well from What I have Read, it says Hep C in not proven to be Passed Sexually !! So I'm wondering why my DR . Chewed Me Out for not Using Protected Sex ! Why Could that be as Long as It's not that time of the month & no Blood Is Involved ? Not to mention making sure there is no Open Wounds on My Partner ...............

Thank You For Any Info I can Get ! !
Take Care
Mary

Safe sex is always the best way to go as you are likely to catch many STD's.  It's unlikely that you will ever catch HepC from sex but there is still alot of other stuff you can catch and if you're active and a bit on the loose side then it just makes common sense.   Besides, raincoats are in season! lol

I believe your doctor gave you sound advice. You should practice safe sex when infected with HCV.

Whether it is proven or not it is not worth the risk.

Also my husband of 15 years is negative.

MaryJane, my doctor made it very clear that even someone that can get pregnant should never touch riba.  Don't know where you are in that scheme of things but if you can still get pregnant, protection is best.

here is what i recently came across.
Egypt has one of the largest population of HCV infected people
and it is apparently spread a lot thru unsanitary conditions (dentist ect..)
as well as sexually .It is even believed that it is easier for an infected female
to infect a male than the other way round.
In the western world sexual activity between husband and wife is seen as minimal risk.
Guess that changes with multiple partners ect...
When I was dx`d of course we tested my wife of 22 years and she is negative.

Upon diagnosis my PCP made the most ignorant comments of heard other than in this forum by someone who has mental problems not Hep C.  I then went to my GI and he explained the facts, including the fact that the CDC doesn't recommend condom use by monogamous couples. Here is an interesting study regarding health care professionals and Hep C

If you don't have a medsape account create one well worth reading.

It sounds like your Dr.,knowing you have HCV,is just being cautious on behalf of your partner. Sexual transmission from what they know is extremely unlikely,as  blood from an infected person must enter the blood stream of another. Like some drs. out there he just may not know this as unbelievable as that sounds or he is just thinking of whats best for you to be taking no chances.

Hope that helps some WILL
