Hepatitis C is a blood borne virus. This means blood infected with the hepatitis C virus must enter the blood stream of an uninfected person.

You cannot co tract hepatitis c by touching surfaces or by shaking hands with someone infected with hepatitis c

You would need to have an open fresh weeping wound to have a point of entry for the virus.

Even in the case of a health care worker who should experience an accidental needle stick involving a patient with known hepatitis c infection their odds for contracting hepatitis c is only about 0.2%
