Wonderful to hear your hubby is doing well with treatment also. We are very lucky to part of this trial and have no placebo. I only get the awful taste when I don't eat a few hearty spoonfuls of food while taking it. The blue burps are pretty awful though! We have a lot of wonderful drugs on the horizon. thank you Merck/Boceprevir!

Have a good and I hope your husband gets his svr.

Hi All -
Adding my Dear Hubby to your club of Boceprevir UND. He was UND by TW8. He is now on TW19 - became anemic at TW14 and they randomized him to Procrit. Before that, he was feeling really tired, dizzy and just fatigued. He is Genotype 1a with Cirrhosis - so a tough one to treat and the Boceprevir is doing the trick...Hey a fun fact: we "heard" that the awful taste may be related to the otherworldly blue color - and they are considering changing the color - wouldn't that be nice? I always call him during the day to make sure he took his "smurfs" - lol.

It looks like the test is sensitive to 10, here is a link about it.

Hi-
Thanks for the note and congrats to you also! I am sorry to hear you are feeling so lousy, being und so quickly sure helps keep the goal in site. We are really lucky to be able to part of this study, I don't think I would be und without it. My hgb is 10.2 now. they want to randomize me soon. I don't feel that badly most of the time, but some days are tough, although I don't think it's the HGB level.

I have asked for the test copies. My nurse emails the results or I write it down. I will ask again. I'd really like to know how low the test detects to.

Ultimate success for all of us and new drugs like boceprevir available to all who need it!

Hey Dave, congratulations and welcome to the Bocep Trial UND club!!

I was able to get written copies of all my labs in this study, but I had to ask for them.  I wanted to make sure my hepatologist & GP were kept up-to-date.  All of the PCR test in this study are performed by the same lab (I think in Illinois?)  My lab report doesn't identify the threshold for the PCR test, it does call out "HCV RNA PCR TAQMAN 2.0"  "HCV RNA   HCV RNA not detected".  Maybe someone knows the detection threshold for this test.

So far my 6 wk and 8 wk PCRs are UND and I am waiting for my 10 wk results.  The last couple of wks have been pretty rough, and I've missed over a week of work.  My riba dose was reduced at wk 8 due to anemia.  Still the dizziness, weakness, & nausea have been very problematic, so this past Monday the doc dose reduced my IFN as well.

Today my treatment coordinator called and said that with the ribavirin dose reduction, my hbg bounced up 1.2 pts in 11 days!  Tomorrow I increase my riba back to the starting dose and hope the IFN dose reduction will be enough to maintain...

Wishing us all ultimate success!

Again I want to thank all of you for helping me get to this point.

Kathy- I have not seen the test yet but will get a copy when I go to the drs office. I asked my nurse who said she believed it was sensitive to 10, but she wasn't absolutely sure. It's hard to get copies of labs in the study, at least that's been my experience. I have every piece of paper about my condition for 12 years so I am not used to this.

Perhaps someone else in the study has a copy of their und lab and could tell us.

Now l hope I stay und! this is a huge obstacle to get past, I am thrilled of course!

Dave

Dave, all the worrying for nothing.  Congrats.  What is the sensitivity of the test they use-- is it 15?

This stuff is the real deal.

Congratulations!!!  I hope that your ride will be less bumpy from here on, and that you reach SVR.  That UND status sure puts wind in one's sail and helps to deal with the sx a little better. And you are right about the nurse.  Getting a call on a Sunday is definitely  above and beyond.  You are fortunate to have such a good team taking care of you - You deserve it!
